Two-time National League Cy Young Award winner Tim Lincecum will remain in a San Francisco Giants uniform for the next two years after reaching a deal worth $23 million just before he was scheduled to start an arbitration hearing.
Lincecum had been seeking $13 million a year while the Giants countered with an offer of $8 million following a season in which he led the league with 261 strikeouts and collected 15 wins which included a pair of shutouts and four complete games.
In his three big league seasons the 25-year-old Lincecum has posted a 40-17 record with a 2.90 ERA and 676 strikeouts.
As part of the new deal Lincecum would receive a $2 million signing bonus and an $8 million salary for this year and that would be followed by with a $13 million payday for 2011. In addition to his salary Lincecum would be able to make a significant amount in bonuses if he were to reach certain benchmarks.
