New York Yankees' Alex Rodriguez is not talking about his contract situation until the end of the year. The superstar third baseman has three-and-a-half seasons left on his record 10 year, $252 million contract, but he can opt out of his contract and become a free agent at the end of the season. Sources say if Rodriguez does opt out, the Yankees will not bid for his services. This time last season, Yankees fans pretty much wrote Rodriguez off as they were disappointed with his play. This year, Rodriguez is leading the Major Leagues with 31 homeruns and 87 RBIs, while batting an average of .317.
With his strong play, he is the frontrunner for the American League Most Valuable Player award, but the Yankees are 10 games behind the Division-leading Boston Red Sox, their archrival. If the season ended today, the Yankees would not make the playoffs, regardless of Rodriguez' phenomenal season.
