India's auto market is rapidly growing and companies are rushing to India. The popular car in India are cheap, fuel-efficient, compact cars and these companies see a strong market for them.
Hyundai Motor of South Korea has already begun producing its Atos Prime in a town near Chennai and intend to do the same for Getz. The yearly production for this company is currently slated to be around 300,000 cars annually and will double that rate after a second factor is completed by October.
Annual vehicle sales in India are expected to reach two million units by the year 2012. Companies are looking to get a foothold.
Toyota is expected to announce similar plans by 2012.
