Keith Urban says his wife Nicole Kidman is the reason he went into rehab. The country music singer says Kidman “really took the reins” and said it was time to put his career on hold and take care of himself.
After completing a 90 stay in the Betty Ford rehab clinic, Urban says he will never look back and regret it. At the time he entered rehab he was supposed to be promoting his latest album ‘Love, Pain, & the Whole Crazy Thing."
"I'm never going to look back and think, 'I wish I'd toured for one more week in July.' That doesn't make any sense," Urban says. “I'm trying to find a quality of life, and that comes with trade-offs and sacrifices and balance."
Urban also opens up about what lead up to rehab. “My wife was away. She hadn’t really been away before, and it came as a shock to me to be alone and not prepared for it, alone with thing that I had, this big monkey on my back.”
“Not going in would have cost me my career at the very least, and my marriage would have been gone, anyway. That real cleansing and surrendering everything is what was really needed for me. I realized, 'This is the crossroads of my life. If I want a life, this is the time to take charge.' "
Urban says he is glad that it happened because it brought his marriage to a whole new place.
