It was a triumphant return to the box-office top spot for Harry Potter as the boy wizard and his cohorts raked in $77.4 million over the weekend in “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.”
With a record setting Wednesday premier of more than $44 million the J.K. Rowling inspired ‘Harry Potter’ has totaled just over $140 million at the domestic box-office. Add that with the $190 million overseas and “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” has already eclipsed the $300 million mark worldwide.
While Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson, Helena Bonham Carter, Emma Thompson and Rupert Grint pulled in the top dollars, “Transformers” was relegated to second after a $36 million weekend haul. After two weekends the 1980s inspired action movie has totaled $223 million.
