It has been more than one month since Isaiah Washington was unceremoniously dumped from the hit ABC show “Grey’s Anatomy” after an on-set argument with co-star Patrick Dempsey set off a public outcry from gay rights activists.
Washington, 43, has left his scrubs behind and will now be taking part in the NBC remake of “Bionic Woman.” The 2007 NAACP Image Award recipient for best actor in a Drama series was fired by ABC after a fight he had with “Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Patrick Dempsey. During that fight Washington was reportedly said to have made anti-gay remarks about T.R. Knight.
Shortly after the on-set incident Washington repeated the slurs while at the Golden Globe Awards. Washington denied that the remarks he made were ever aimed at Knight and later claimed that he was using the controversy to gain attention and better situate himself for salary talks with ABC. Upon ABC’s insistence Washington attended counseling and filmed a PSA in which he addressed the impact of words. Despite following through with ABC’s demands the network refrained from renewing Washington’s contract.
Along with his work on ‘Bionic Woman,” Washington may be staring in an action drama on NBC starting in 2008-09. The network is said to be moving forward on a project that Washington recently pitched to them.
