Both Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton have positioned themselves for a serious fight for the Democratic nod in the 2008 presidential race according to official campaign contribution figures filed on Sunday.
Obama is the clear frontrunner in the race for dollars as the Illinois senator raised a record $32.8 million in the second quarter, easily surpassing the $27.1 million brought in by Hillary Clinton.
With both Obama and Clinton taking the lion’s share of campaign dollars in the Democratic race John Edwards was third with $9.2 million in the second quarter.
Obama is reported to have $36.3 million cash on hand while Clinton, aided by a $10 million transfer from her Senate campaign fund in the first quarter has a total of $45.2 million.
