Sven Kramer had all of Netherlands cheering on Saturday after the 23-year-old speed skater captured gold in the 5000 meter Speedskating event at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver.
Kramer had captured gold at the World Championships in the 5000 meters in 2007, 2008 and 2009 and only lacked an Olympic gold. On Saturday there was no stopping Kramer as he crushed the field with a 6:14.60 time to improve on his 2006 Winter Olympics silver medal effort.
The silver medal was a shock to many as Seung-Hoon Lee of South Korea finished with the second-best time of 6:16.95. Russia’s Ivan Skobrev took bronze just ahead of Norway’s Havard Bokko.
