Al Gore's Documentary Raises Awareness Towards Energy Conservation

United States presidential candidate Al Gore seems to have found a new approach to boost his presidential campaign. Environmentalists have finally got a means to get their voices heard by the public. People are now recognizing the virtues of cost-effective and environmentally friendly electrical and electronic devices such as the compact fluorescent lamps. All this has been due to a documentary about Al Gore’s lectures on global warming called “An Inconvenient Truth.”

Many environmentalists are devoting their entire careers trying to inculcate awareness among public about energy conservation. Their efforts have now received a substantial boost with the Al Gore’s movie. All county governments in Washington D.C. including Montgomery, Fairfax, Arlington and Howard, who were earlier quite circumspect about environment-friendly plans, have now initiated them.

According to Marion Clark, who is the planning coordinator for the Montgomery County Planning Department, Al Gore’s documentary has renewed peoples interest in ecological issues. Montgomery county initiated its ‘Going green' program in 2000-2001.

The situation is quite similar in Howard where Joshua Feldmark, who is the executive director of Howard County’s Commission on the Environment and Sustainability, is highly excited with the response being generated. Seeing the response, Kambiz Agazi, who is an environmental coordinator in Fairfax, has even incorporated issues related to global warming and green house gas emissions in his lectures.
