Heading into the final turn of the men’s short-track speedskating 1,500 meters medal round in the Vancouver Winter Olympics it looked like South Korea would sweep the podium but an ill-advised move by Lee Ho-Suk led to a fall that took out a fellow countryman and while Lee Jung-Su captured gold the fall led to American Apolo Anton Ohno nabbing silver.
Joining Lee and Ohno on the podium was 19-year-old American J.R. Celski who grabbed bronze for his first Olympic medal. Celski was competing for the first time since an ugly incident at the U.S. trials when he cut his leg with his own skate and nearly bled to death on the track.
For Ohno the silver medal was his sixth career Olympic medal, tying him with Bonnie Blair as the most decorated American in Winter Olympic history.
