Fred Thompson Meets Firefighter Union Chief

Former senator and actor Fred Thompson seems to have the knack of utilizing opportunities to his benefit at the right time. In the wake of current controversy surrounding his rival Rudy Giuliani, Fred Thompson called for a meeting with a New York City Firefighters’ Union official. Former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani is being tipped as the main candidate for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

International Association of Fire Fighters (IAFF) had severely criticized the measures employed by Rudy Giuliani during 9/11. Rudy Giuliani was the New York City Mayor at that time. The IAFF has released a 13-minute video depicting the role played by the firefighters after the attacks. In this regard, Fred Thompson called Steve Cassidy, who is the President of Uniformed Firefighters Association, for a breakfast.

According to the firefighters, Giuliani’s administration was unable to provide functional and adequate radio handsets at the time when they were absolutely required. Due to this, several firefighters laid down their lives since they were unable to hear the evacuation orders. Firefighters even blamed Giuliani’s orders for a speedy removal of rubble from Ground Zero.

Commenting on the meeting with Thompson, Steve Cassidy said that the meeting was held on the behest of Fred Thompson. Cassidy expressed his satisfaction with the meeting. However, Thompson refused to air any comments about the meeting or Giuliani.
