Fred Thompson Gaining Grounds In GOP Survey

Popularity of former Tennessee senator Fred Thompson seems to be increasing in leaps and bounds. According to a recent survey poll conducted to determine the popularity of a presidential candidate, Fred Thompson is gradually catching up the GOP powerhouses Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. Fred Thompson is one of the potential Republican presidential candidates apart from Giuliani and Romney.

The results of the Insiders Poll were released by National Journal. Insiders Survey Poll determines the position of the candidates depending on the rankings given by political consultants, lobbyists and political leaders of a particular party. As per these results, Fred Thompson was comfortably placed in the third position, behind Rudy Giuliani and Mitt Romney. This is a significant improvement for Thompson considering the fact that he was not even in the Top 10 when the Insiders Poll was conducted in March.

According to Kavita Masthoff, an analyst at USAElectionPolls.com, one of the main reasons for Fred Thompson’s success is his ability to attract conservative voters. Fred Thompson has managed to John McCain to the fourth position. John McCain was left behind as his campaign suffered depleted fundraising programs and staff departures.

However, there have been no significant shifts in the rankings of Democratic presidential candidates. While Hillary Rodham Clinton is still maintaining her position as the front runner, Barack Obama is way behind at second. John Edwards is in the third position in the current Insiders Poll results.
