Mitt Romney, who is the Republican presidential candidate, considers Utah to be an important part of his presidential campaign. Till now, Romney has managed to raise $1.2 million from Utah. This makes the state the second highest contributor to Romney’s campaign.
Romney has already visited Utah twice this year to raise funds for his campaign. Mitt Romney, who is a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints, had utilized his contacts with the fellow Mormons in the best possible way to raise funds equivalent to $2.7 million in the first three months of the year. Apart from this, Romney is also stated to have utilized his popularity that grew due to his initiative and leadership during the 2002 Winter Olympics in the Salt Lake City.
Romney’s advantage is that he has many friends in Utah who are well aware of his leadership qualities. However, Utah is always considered as a flyover state at the time of general elections.
According to the second quarter financial report submitted by Romney, a total of $44.4 million funds were raised by him. Major chunk of the contributions came from California where he raised around $2.3 million. Kevin Madden, Romney’s spokesman, contends that no other presidential candidate has been as successful as Romney in Utah.
