Hillary Rodham Clinton has long been talking about her universal healthcare plan. So during her recent upstate tour she decided to draw attention to a part of the healthcare industry which many people are unaware of. A few days ago, Hillary Clinton took up the issue of shortage of nurses in the country.
Hillary Clinton feels that there is an acute shortage of nurses in the country and this is hurting New York the most. According to Hillary Clinton in the next 10 years, New York will need 80,000 nurses. Ironically there is no shortage of people willing to take up the profession. She also said that in 7 years there would be 1.2 million openings in the country for regular nurses.
Several hospitals are offering attractive incentives, tuition reimbursements and awards to retain recent graduates. Lourdes Hospital in Binghamton received the Magnet Recognition for Nursing Excellence Award early this year and now the hospital is flooded with applicants.
Hillary Clinton believes if the nursing shortage is addressed in the country, the ripple effect would filter down to the healthcare system, which many believe is in dire states and needs to be changed.
