John Edwards, Democratic presidential candidate, did not expect his tour objective to be sidelined recently in New Orleans. Edwards, former North Carolina Senator, is on a tour of New Orleans emphasizing issues related with poverty.
Edwards was addressing a small press conference at a local community center in New Orleans on issues related to poverty, minimum wages, job creation and affordable child care. However, reporters wanted Edwards to talk about the political scandals in Louisiana. The reporters wanted Edwards’ opinion on David Vitter, a Republican senator from Louisiana.
Senator Vitter was recently accused of having connection with an up-market brothel in New Orleans. Vitter confessed to this and now his political career hangs by a thread and his reputation is in tatters.
However, Edwards being the suave politician deftly avoided making any comments on Vitter. All he said the Senate would be disappointed if a senator ended up making a confession.
When asked about William Jefferson, a Democratic representative from Louisiana, Edwards said briefly that people are innocent until proven guilty and this also applies to the congressman.
Jefferson, who has proclaimed his innocence, was indicted on 11 charges of bribery schemes and 16 criminal counts, including racketeering and money laundering.
