John Edwards And Poverty Related Issues

Democratic presidential candidate John Edwards is trying to start a citizen’s movement to fight poverty across America. He wants supporters to join this movement as he feels that it would be impossible for any U.S. president to solve the issue besetting the society without assistance from the masses.

Edwards feels that there is a need to increase the federal minimum wages and to provide incentives to businesses that operating in impoverished areas of cities. He is urging to bring about a new legislation so that minimum wages are increased from the current $5.15 per hour to $7.25. Some other changes that Edwards wants to bring about if he becomes the president are payment of sick leave and a universal health care system.

Edwards even considers it important to support companies by giving them incentives and tax breaks if they are willing to extend their operations and provide jobs in communities with alarming levels of poverty. According to Edwards people are poor as their wages are low, provided with inadequate benefits, forced to work in incredibly dangerous conditions and are cheated at every corner.
