Eric Clapton limited edition Crossroads Stratocaster released

A performance by John Mayer and Eric Clapton on Good Morning America July 20 marks Fender’s release of the Eric Clapton Crossroads Stratocaster aka “Sun Strat.” Fender created the limited addition guitar to help benefit The Crossroads Centre, Antigua. Eric Clapton founded the rehabilitation facility in 1998 on the Caribbean island.

Fender is only making 100 of the limited addition guitars that will be produced by Fender’s custom Shop’s Masters Builders. All proceeds from the sale will go toward the rehab centre. John Mayer got the first guitar and used it in his Good Morning America performance.

On July 28 fans will see Mayer and Clapton perform again at the 2007 Crossroads Guitar Festival in Chicago. Other performers include guitarists such as Jeff Beck, Buddy Guy, B.B. King, Hubert Sumlin Derek Trucks, Jimmie Vaughan and others. Proceeds from the festival will also benefit The Crossroads Centre.
