CNN/Opinion Research Corporation polled Caucasian and African American voters separately in the state of South Carolina and found some intriguing results.
Obama polled modestly among Caucasian voters at 18% but was strong 31% among African Americans. The candidate with the biggest discrepancy among the racial groups was John Edwards. The candidate fighting to fix the Two Americas problem was at 27% with white voters, a statistical dead heat with Hillary Clinton, but was at a disappointing 4% among African American voters.
Despite being the most vocal about the poor, Edwards has lost traction among African American voters. Largely in part due to his expensive hair cut that he charged to his campaign. Edwards has since apologized for charging the haircut to his campaign as a mistake.
