David Beckham plays his debut game despite injury

Despite David Beckham’s announcement he would be sitting out his first game playing for the Los Angeles Galaxy, the soccer star managed to play almost 13 minutes of the game.

Beckham announced earlier in the week that due to an ankle injury, he would not be playing in the exhibition match against Chelsea. Beckham entered the field to fans chanting, “Beckham, Beckham” and was cheered on by his wife, Victoria Beckham, and other stars including, Katie Holmes, Tom Cruise, Eva Longoria, Mary-Kate Olsen, Brooke Shields, Jennifer Love Hewitt, and Drew Carey.

Although Galaxy lost, Beckham told reporters after the game, “It was nice to get out there.” He also commented on his ankle injury saying, “The ankle has swollen up slightly, but that was going to happen. We’ll see how it is tomorrow.”

“It was a good performance from the team. We just lost one nil,” he said. “Mt 15 minutes, it was nice to get out there. I haven’t trained all week. I hadn’t kicked a ball yet today. It was just nice to get out there with the lads and get this game over and done with. I enjoyed it.”
