Doug Fieger, lead vocalist for the rock group The Knack, died on Sunday following a six-year battle with cancer. Fieger was 57.
Perhaps best known for the 1979 hit “My Sharona” that topped the Billboard Hot 100 for six weeks, Fieger was a rock staple along with The Knack for decades. While “My Sharona” earned Fieger and the band their most lasting recognition they also earned success with the singles “Good Girls Don’t” and “Baby Talks Dirty.”
In 2005 Fieger was diagnosed with lung cancer and one year later he underwent brain surgery to remove two tumors.
