Tiger Woods Will Not Play in Championship

Woods Will Miss Championship

Tiger Woods will not play in this year’s WGC-Accenture Match Play Championship. Currently ranked as number 1 in the world, Woods had until 5 p.m. on Friday to commit to play the game, but he never did so. Phil Mickelson, who is ranked number 2, is also missing the game, because he wants to take a family vacation instead. Woods’ failure to commit to the game does not come as a big surprise, since he has not made any public announcements since December 11th, when he acknowledged his marital infidelity and announced that he was taking an indefinite leave from the world of golf. Although he has won the tournament three times, Woods apparently needs more time to deal with personal issues, including his marital problems, which cost him the loss of various endorsements. This 10-time PGA Player of the year is the winner of 14 Major Championships, including 3 U.S. Opens, 4 The Masters, and 4 PGA Championships.
