“For Once in My Life” songwriter Ron Miller dead at 74

Songwriter Ron Miller died of cardiac arrest on Monday at the Santa Monica UCLA Medical Center after battling cancer and emphysema.

 

Miller got his break into the musical business in the 1960’s. He wrote songs that have been recorded by many famous artist including Judy Garland, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, and Ray Charles.

 

Some of Miller’s songs include, “Touch Me in the Morning,” “For Once in My Life,” and “Heaven Help Us All.”  “For Once in my Life” is one of the most recorded songs of all time. It has more than 270 versions.

 

Miller also wrote many lyrics to musicals, including “Daddy Goodness,” “Cheery,” “Bus Stop” and “I’ve Never Seen A Woman Before.”

 

“My father will be reborn every time someone sings one of his songs. When they feel joy or sadness or any emotion, that will be my dad and his words,” Miller’s daughter, Lisa Dawn Miller, said.

 

Miller’s wife, Aurora Miller, and their six children survived him. A memorial service will be held August 4.
