After a season in which he entered the prestigious 3,000 hit club, Houston Astros second baseman Craig Biggio is not returning to baseball to continue his legacy.
This season, Biggio is batting .250 with six homers, 24 doubles and 35 RBIs. He has 3,016 hits, four shy of tying Rafael Palmiero for 23rd place.
The seven-time All-Star has also received four Gold Glove awards. He is one of only seven players to have 3,000 hits and 400 steals, yet he is the only of the seven to also have 600 doubles and 250 homers in addition to that number of hits and steals.
Biggio is a career .282 hitter. He is expected to be a first-ballot Hall of Famer and will undoubtedly be retired as an Astro since the Houston club is the only team he has played for.
