Botulism Outbreak Causes Canned Food Recall
Fear of a wide-scale botulism outbreak led Castleberry Food Co. to issue a nationwide recall on more than 90 brands of canned foods the Food and Drug Administration said on Monday.
The Georgia-based company initially recalled ten products last Wednesday after four cases of botulism were discovered to have originated from their Hot Dog Chili Sauce Original product. The four individuals who ate the food were hospitalized and are now recovering.

The FDA issued a statement saying that any can marked with USDA seal denoting “Est. 195” should be discarded immediately and warned consumers to refrain from opening any of the products. The botulinum toxin that causes Botulism can cause paralysis just by breathing it or contact with broken skin.
