Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Warns Against Sanctions, Says Countries will be “Regretful”

Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad has issued a warning to any country placing sanctions on them, saying Iran would react strongly and those countries would be “regretful.”

Speaking at a news conference on Tuesday Ahmadinejad stated, “If anyone does anything against Iran, then our response won't be the same as in the past. No, we will definitely react and make them regretful.”

The warning issued by Ahmadinejad came as members of the UN’s Security Council and Germany discussed placing further sanctions against the country. Those new sanctions are being considered because Iran has not cooperated with safety demands concerning their nuclear program.

While Iran has insisted its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes there are several countries who believe they are attempting to develop a nuclear weapon. That belief is strongly felt by the United States, making the situation even more tenuous as Secretary of State Hillary Clinton has said Iran was moving toward a “military dictatorship” as the Revolutionary Guard Corps gains more power.

On Monday Clinton said the U.S. “see that the government of Iran, the supreme leader, the president, the parliament, is being supplanted and that Iran is moving toward a military dictatorship. That is our view.”
