Troy Alternative Medicine Facility Pioneers Stop-Smoking Procedure

90% Success Rate Just in Time for Michigan’s Smoking Ban Effective Date of May 1st

After more than ten years of legislative debate on the issue, the Michigan Legislature passed a general ban on smoking in the workplace, beginning May 1st with exemptions for the Detroit casinos, cigar bars, tobacco stores, home offices and vehicles.

Innovative Medicine located in Troy has pioneered a successful stop-smoking procedure that uses acupuncture and light therapy for a successful 90% success rate for the 60 minute procedure.

Dr. Rhonda Sousley of Innovative Medicine says, “the procedure is safe, non-invasive and we treat acupuncture points for weight management, stress and addictive cravings and follow up with light therapy. Most individuals find the treatment relaxing and enjoyable.” The procedure cost is $299.00 and is completely covered by an IRS tax credit so the initial program ends up being free.

Dr. Sousley states, “we have been contracted by such companies as Ford, State of Michigan, all sorts of small businesses looking for a program to offer their employees prior to the new law taking effect.” The program is simple to administer in many environments and work places. “It is critical that the individual be committed to quitting the nicotine addiction,” Dr. Sousley added.

Cigarette smoking results in 15,000 deaths each year in Michigan, and exposure to secondhand smoke results in approximately 2,500 deaths each year, resulting in over 17,000 deaths in Michigan each year caused by smoking. The average smoker consumes 1 to 2 packs of cigarettes a day costing over $3900 per year.

Innovative Medicine has been doing the stop-smoking procedure since its implementation in 2004 and has assisted hundreds of individuals in becoming smoke free. Programs are done on-site and in the Troy office of Innovative Medicine.
