Avril Lavigne Songwriting Controversy “Complicated”

Avril Lavigne wants to be known as a songwriter but according to her former collaborator Chantal Kreviazuk the punk princess needs to stop taking credit for lyrics she didn’t pen.

According to Kreviazuk “Avril doesn't really sit and write songs by herself or anything. Avril will also cross the ethical line, and no one says anything.”

Kreviazuk worked closely with Lavigne on the 22-year-old’s second album “Under My Skin” which sold more than 380,000 copies in its first week of release in the United States. During an interview following the 2004 release of the album Lavigne stated “I am a writer, and I won't accept people trying to take that away from me, and anyone who does is ignorant and doesn't know what they're talking about.”

Lavigne ran into trouble with the same issue of entitlement on her first album “Let Go” which featured smash singles “Complicated” and “Sk8er Boi.” Lavigne was credited with co-writing ‘Sk8er Boi” but co-writers The Matrix took exception to the claim saying the Canadian singer merely changed a few words and she didn’t deserve credit for songwriting credits.
