Jay-Z stepping down from record label

Jay-Z is in the talks of no longer being the CEO and president of Island Def Jam records. The hip-hop artist is thinking of stepping down from his position after Jermaine Dupri was appointed president of the label’s urban music division. "There isn't room for two kings at one label. Why would Def Jam bring in another power-hitter urban guy?" a source said.

The 38-year-old rapper is reportedly considering moving to Columbia Records where his girlfriend, Beyonce Knowles, records . Because of the rappers success with signing on 19-year-old Rhianna, the Columbia record co-chair, Rick Rubin, is considering him a good option.

“Rick’s creating a supergroup of staff. So it would make sense that he would want Jay on his side,” a source said.
