The man who stalked and then shot and killed actress Rebecca Schaeffer in 1989 was stabbed multiple times while at the Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County, California on Friday.
Officials said that Robert John Bardo was stabbed 11 times while walking through the prison yard on his way to breakfast. The 37-year-old convicted killer was treated at University of California, Davis, Medical Center before being returned to the prison.
Bardo was 19-years-old when he began obsessing over “My Sister Sam” actress Rebecca Schaeffer. He sent numerous letters and attempted to meet her on several occasions. In July of 1989 Bardo hired a private investigator to obtain Schaeffer’s address and on the 18th of that month he went to her house.
When Schaeffer, then 21-years-old, opened the door Bardo shot and killed the actress. He was later sentenced to life in prison.
Prison officials identified Bardo’s attacker as a man serving an 82-year sentence for second degree murder.
