Floyd Mayweather Jr. had announced his intentions to step away from the ring after beating Oscar De La Hoya on May 5 of this year but now the 30-year-old seems prepared to step back in for at least one more bout.
After coming to a verbal agreement on Friday dealing with money and venue the 38-0 Mayweather Jr. could be squaring off against the English-born Ricky Hatton in Las Vegas by the end of the year.
Hatton will carry a 43-0 record into the ring as a two-time IBF and IBO Light Welterweight Champion as well as being a former WBU, WBA Light Welterweight Champion. The 28-year-old just defeated Jose Luis Castillo last month for the 140-pound IBO light welterweight title.
It is unclear what weight class Mayweather Jr. and Hatton would battle at but Floyd’s last fight with De La Hoya was for the 154-pound WBC super welterweight title.
