Fred Thompson Wins South Carolina Poll, Ron Paul Second

In the Georgetown County Republican Party straw poll held on July 28, 2007; Fred Thompson won with a convincing 46%. Ron Paul and Mitt Romney followed that up with 18% and 17% respectively.

The latest scientific poll of South Carolina voters by CNN/Opinion Research Corporation,   showed a completely different picture in which Thompson had 18%, Romney 6%, and Paul just 2%.

These three candidates garner 26% of the state support but were able to pick up a total of 81% in this straw poll. Straw polls are not accurate and Georgetown County is not representative of the rest of the state but this is nonetheless an interesting trend that suggests supporters of the lower tiered candidates are the most vocal at the moment. Particularly noteworthy are the Ron Paul supporters.
