After 18 seasons living in Springfield the Simpsons may be looking to upgrade their housing situation after blowing away expectations at the weekend box office. With a $71.9 million haul at the ticket counter “The Simpsons” easily surpassed last week’s number one movie “I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry.”
For Homer, Marge, Bart, Lisa and Maggie the nearly $80 million take was at least $20 million more than what analysts had expected.
Adam Sandler and Kevin James topped the box office last weekend with ‘Chuck and Larry’ but saw their film fall 44 percent with a $19.1 million take. While ‘Chuck and Larry’ fell to second it still edged ‘Harry Potter’ at the box office.
In its third weekend “Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix” brought in $17.1 million for a grand total of $241.8 million.
