The Atlanta Braves appear set on acquiring Texas Rangers first baseman Mark Teixeira pending a review of medical records of the players involved. Reports have indicated that Teixeira and left-handed pitcher Ron Mahay would be shipped to the Braves for catcher Jarrod Saltalamacchia, Class A shortstop Elvis Andrus and a pair of pitching prospects.
Teixeira, who played college baseball down the street from Turner Field at Georgia Tech, is currently hitting .297 with 13 home runs and 49 RBIs. Mahay is currently 2-0 in 28 games with a 2.77 ERA.
After the Braves signed catcher Brian McCann to a six-year deal in March it made rookie Jarrod Saltalamacchia expendable. After trying the 22-year-old at first base the Braves opted to acquire Julio Franco and now Teixeira. Saltalamacchia is hitting .284 with 4 home runs in 47 games.
