Johnny Depp knows it’s been nearly seven years since “The Rum Diary” was labeled as a project but now it actually appears as if the Hunter S. Thompson autobiographical work could really be moving forward.
Graham King, a recent Oscar winner for his production work on “The Departed,” acquired all rights to the work and would collaborate with Depp on the production of the film.
According to reports Depp would act in the movie, it would be his second appearance in a Hunter S. Thompson work turned into a movie. Depp starred in 1998’s “Fear and Loathing in Las Vegas” alongside Benicio Del Toro.
“The Rum Diary” is an account of Thompson’s days as a freelance journalist in Puerto Rico during the late 1950s.
