Kevin Garnett might actually get traded. Trade talks between the Boston Celtics and Minnesota Timberwolves have been heating up lately. The proposed deal involves Garnett for Theo Ratliff's expiring contract and Al Jefferson. Originally, Garnett blocked the trade, stating that he would opt out of his contract immediately after the season. However, this was before the Celtics traded their 5th pick (Jeff Green) to Seattle for Ray Allen, assuring that the Celtics would not only add more experience, but a bonafide leader and scorer in Allen.
With the potential trio of Allen, Paul Pierce and Garnett, the Celtics have the potential to win the Eastern Conference Finals instantly. Although all three are over 30, their experience will balance out the extreme youth dispersed throughout the roster. The Timberwolves will receive a defensive presence (Ratliff) and a young power forward (Jefferson) to compliment draft Corey Brewer, giving Minnesota a formidable frontcourt.
Due to Garnett's massive contract, Gerald Green and Sebastian Telfair have been involved as well for financial purposes. Garnett is set to make $23 million this season, not to mention luxury tax and a $6.75 million no-tax clause in his contract that will obviously be broken. Financially and personnel-wise, the Celtics are making a large investment if this deal goes through. However, it seems like General Manager Danny Ainge is fine with this.
