Israeli Foreign Minister Says There’s No Proof Connecting Country with Assassination of Hamas Commander

Israeli Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman has said there is no proof his county’s Mossad spy agency carried out the recent assassination of a Hamas commander in Dubai but he stopped short of denying any involvement in the killing.

Lieberman held close to Israel’s “policy of ambiguity,” which neither confirms nor denies its involvement in such operations. In an interview with Army Radio Lieberman stated, “There is no reason to think that it was the Israeli Mossad, and not some other intelligence service or country up to some mischief.”

The assassination of Mahmoud al-Mabhouh was believed to have been carried out by eleven people described as “agents with European passports” according to Dubai. Hamas has already blamed Israeli agents for the murder and the use of foreign passports is consistent with assassinations conducted by Mossad in the past.

Those European passports were from France, Germany, the Irish Republic and the UK but it is being claimed all of those passports were faked. While the passports were faked, they were made with at least five Israelis dual nationals. Those individuals have denied any involvement in the assassination.

According to reports Mabhhouh had been in Dubai to purchase weapons for Hamas, a Palestinian Islamist movement that is considered an enemy of Israel.
