2010 Winter Olympics Results Figure Skating Men’s Short Program: Evgeni Plushenko Holds Narrow Lead Over Evan Lysacek Heading into Long Program
Russia’s Evgeni Plushenko, the defending Olympic gold medalist, had a remarkable start to his 2010 Winter Olympics, finishing his short program in the men’s figure skating event in first place with a point total of 90.85. Plushenko holds a narrow lead over American Evan Lysacek and Japan’s Daisuke Takahashi.
Lysacek, the gold medalist at the 2009 World Championships, finished with a personal best 90.30 point total for his short program and remains a serious contender for Olympic gold when the long program rolls around on Thursday.
While Plushenko and Lysacek were expected to be at the top of the standings following the short program Takahashi is a surprise to many but after posting a personal best 90.25 on Tuesday he stands in third.
