Daunte Culpepper is working out with the Oakland Raiders today, two weeks after being released from the Miami Dolphins. This adds insurance for the Raiders since they have yet to sign draft pick JaMarcus Russell. Due to the similarity in style (both over 6-foot-4, 260 pounds), Culpepper may legitimately replace Russell or can be a mentor to him if he does finally sign.
Either way, this puts Russell in a more compromising position with his contract, in which he and his agent are seeking a six-year, $60 million contract.
Culpepper conducted a workout with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on July 19, but did not receive a deal, so this opportunity might be optimal for the former Pro Bowl quarterback.
Culpepper has passed for 21,091 yards, 139 TDs and has a 90.8 QB rating over his eight year career.
