Daunte Culpepper has officially signed with the Oakland Raiders, applying a lot of pressure to the team's situation with number one pick JaMarcus Russell. Russell still remains unsigned as he asks for a six-year, $30 million contract. The team, Russell and his agent have in talks for months, but nothing has come from it.
Culpepper adds a seasoned veteran with great size, athleticism and talent. Last season with the Miami Dolphins, Culpepper was disappointing. With a different passing scheme and a new beginning, it is expected for him to get back to his Pro Bowl status.
As for Russell, it is unclear as to when or even if this situation is cleared up with his contract. As of right now, Culpepper will be penciled in as the starter. If Russell does get signed, then the starting quarterback battle in Oakland might be the best in the NFL.
In eight NFL seasons, Culpepper has passed for 21,091 yards and 137 touchdowns with 89 interceptions. He has a career quarterback rating of 90.8.
