John Mayer and the Dave Matthews Band will play at Virginia Tech on September 6 in order to help students welcome the new school year after the Virginia Tech massacre in April. Other artist will also perform at the concert including country music singer Phil Vassar and rapper Nas.

The concert, which is to be held at the university’s stadium, won’t cost the students, faculty, or staff anything to get in. Tickets are not available for the public as of right now.
President of Virginia Tech, Charles Steger, says he is “extremely grateful for the compassion and generosity of these artists who wished to create a very special event where our students, faculty and staff can come together to celebrate the spirit and resiliency of our university community as we begin the new academic year.”
Carter Beauford, drummer for Dave Matthews Band, said: “We have profound respect for the incredible resolve and unwavering sense of hope the university community has shown, and are honored to have the opportunity to share this evening with Virginia Tech.”
