Bill Richardson Short Listed For VP

A fierce contender – even though his numbers are strictly in the single digits according to national poll averages cited on USA Election Polls – the democratic governor of New Mexico is in many ways the perfect candidate for the vice presidential nomination. Bill Richardson is a career politician with enough experience to know how to talk to Washington insiders. He was an Ambassador to the United Nationals as well as the 2004 chairman for the Democratic National Convention. Because of his work that secured the release of American hostages, he was nominated four times for the Nobel Peace Prize.

By and large, Bill Richardson does toe the party line, making little waves as he traverses the treacherous campaign highways and byways. Known for his pro-choice and pro-death penalty stands, he is also a staunch supporter of gay rights as well as affirmative action. An outspoken critic of the war in Iraq, he vows not to leave any troops in Iraq, causing some to question his ability to be elected and work on bipartisan compromises.

Yet while Bill Richardson may still feature mostly only single digit poll results, some have begun to look at him as one of the serious runners for the democratic nomination and believe that there is a serious divide between those who will most likely drop out for lack of funds and attention, and those who will give the admitted front runners a hard time of simply sliding into place because of name recognition.  In addition to his political abilities, and his savvy campaign style, Mr. Richardson makes for a very attractive vice presidential nominee because he may be able to bring Iowa into the fold with 11% in July! Add this number to his great popularity in New Mexico, and the two states that cost John Kerry the election last time may be the democratic nominee’s for the taking!
