Duncan Hunter is California’s republican addition to the presidential hopeful race. The current representative for the 52nd district that includes portion of Imperial and also San Diego County has thus far not been able to pick up the momentum needed to graduate from the second tier or runners to the first tier. For example, both ABC News and American Research Group polls – as compiled on the USA Election Polls website – both indicate that he has a 1% following thus far, and that in the four months of tracking precious little has changed.
Even California does not muster up more support than a modest 3% and it is questionable if these numbers are sufficient to actually make a dent in the political profiles and percentage gathering campaigns of the other candidates. Yet in spite of rather humbling figures, conservatives in the know liken him to a Reagan conservative, which is more than most other presidential nomination hopefuls can claim.
While it is obvious that he champions the rights of the unborn as well as the empowerment of parents, he also speaks decisively on the issue of illegal immigration which promises to surpass even the war in Iraq as a hot button issue at least in the states bordering Mexico. Understanding the need for immigration, he staunchly supports the upholding of existing laws and promises to continue to close off the border to those who illegally enter, commit identity theft and smuggle drugs. While it is unsure that this platform will be sufficient for election purposes, it is more than enough to have voters listen up and take note.
