For Evander Holyfield to win the heavyweight title for the fifth time he’ll have to beat a left-handed Russian in Moscow, and he has just over two months to train for the battle.
The October 13th card was originally intended to pit Ibragimov against WBA champion Ruslan Chagaev but a stomach ailment has forced Chagaev to withdraw. Holyfield, 42-8-2, will now step in for the undefeated Chagaev.
Holyfield, 44, will have his hands full against Ibragimov who happens to be twelve years younger than the former champ. Ibragimov has a 21-0-1 record with 17 KOs has said of Holyfield, “though I respect what he has done in his career, once the bell rings it will be all business, because he is trying to take what I have worked so hard for -- my world championship.”
