As one of the major contenders for the Republican nomination for president in the 2008 election, John McCain From his platform, it appears that he holds many of the same ideals as the current administration, which may go against him based upon the current trend of citizens who have tired of the current administration's policy. For one thing, during a campaign appearance on April 18th, it appears that by his chanting into song over a question concerning future military action in Iran that he supports the idea of bombing Iran. This can definitely hinder his campaign with the majority of Americans desiring an end to the war in Iraq. Other facts that may negatively on his campaign for president include his pro-life voting record, and a desire for private social security accounts.
While several of the democratic contenders support various forms of national health care, McCain is against socialized medicine. When you look at the increased number of uninsured citizens under the Bush administration and his welfare reductions, one can only expect that anyone affected by those changes will not be likely to vote for a candidate who thinks on the same level as George W. Bush. Supporting welfare reform is a good thing, but you have to do in such a way that it helps those who need it, and that has not been done. His support of legalizing any illegal aliens who are already living in the United States is ludicrous because it takes away jobs and other services from not only our own citizens but also those immigrants who have taken the time to do what it takes to live and work here legally. What's next? Allowing those same illegal immigrants who can't find jobs to collect welfare? We need to return to the way it used to be, and that includes removing the language barrier.
