Second Times a Charm for John Edwards?

According to the facts found in polling data compiled by USA Election Polls, John Edwards is certain that this time around he will be able to win the presidential 2008 election simply because of his ability to sway the southern states. While in the last election that was only a small worry, in the four years since then it has become obvious that a failure to properly consider this segment of the voting population led to an underestimation of the republican support that was found there. This, in large part, explains the catastrophic misadventure in Florida during the last election.

Yet John Edwards has entered a race that is beset with a vast number of possibilities that are all being juggled, some of which make this a very different run than last time around. For example, the southern states overwhelmingly favor Mrs. Clinton at 33.3% but in addition to having to overcome her popularity with the female and Hispanic vote, he will also need to sway the voters that are following Barack Obama who is busily recruiting black and independent voters, which is putting him at 20%.

This leaves precious little by the way of potential voters for John Edwards, and if Al Gore were to run, the environmental vote, which is currently being divided between Obama and Edwards, might quite possibly be siphoned away from him, leaving him unable to even make a showing worthy of a vice presidential nominee – unless he can produce a surefire way of winning that all important southern vote. Will the second time around be a charm for Mr. Edwards?
