Calvin Johnson signs a six-year deal with the Detroit Lions Friday, ending an eight day holdout. The terms of the deal were undisclosed. This allows the No. 2 pick to practice and build cohesion with the team.
Johnson, the 2007 Biletnikoff Award winner, caught 78 passes for 1,202 yards and 15 touchdowns during his All-America junior season at Georgia Tech. Many say he was the best player available in the 2007 Draft.
With the lack of success the Lions have had recently, sporting a 3-13 record last year, Johnson's signing is a step in the right direction. Unfortunately, the Lions do not have much luck with picking wide receivers in the draft. The team has selected the No. 1 wide receiver in the draft four out of the last five years. Only Johnson and Roy Williams remain on the team. Mike Williams was traded to the Oakland Raiders earlier this summer.
