Michael Strahan owes his wife Jean Strahan a lot of money. Of course divorce is already a messy matter but it’s made worse when infidelity is thrown in the mix and now Michael is finding out first hand how bad it can get.
According to the New York Daily News, Strahan was ordered to pay his wife $15.3 million in their divorce, give up his New Jersey mansion, pay $18,000 a month in child support, pony up another $311,000 in back child support and pay 91 percent of his two kids’ private school tuition.
With that level of financial responsibility Strahan sought to renegotiate his $4 million a year salary with the Giants. That’s not going to happen. John Mara, co-owner of the Giants, said “He is under contract and I think you all know what our position is on that. I don't want to make any statements on that.”
Strahan has threatened to retire if his deal isn’t changed but it appears as if the Giants are willing to call his hand. The 35-year-old Strahan has refused to attend preseason camp and even that has cost him big money. Each day missed by the seven-time Pro Bowler costs him $14,288 in fines.
Strahan, who set the single season record for sacks at 22.5 in 2001 has amassed 132.5 over his 15-year career, all with the New York Giants.
