Neifi Perez has tested positive for a banned stimulant for a third time and as a result the Detroit Tigers’ infielder will be suspended 80 games.
The 11-year-veteran from the Dominican Republic had been suspended 25 games on July 6 for his second positive test. That suspension was due to end after the Tigers Friday night game against the Chicago White Sox.
Perez broke in with the Colorado Rockies in 1996 and won a Gold Glove in 2000 with the club. He then moved to the Kansas City Royals the following season. After a year and a half with eth Royals Perez joined the San Francisco Giants and then the White Sox. Perez joined the Tigers in 2006 and was hitting .172 with one home run and 6 RBIs when the suspension was handed down.
