2010 Winter Olympics Results Alpine Skiing Women’s Super Combined Finals: Maria Riesch Grabs Gold, Julia Mancuso Snags Another Silver as Lindsey Vonn Stumbles
Lindsey Vonn was in perfect position to capture her second gold medal of the 2010 Winter Olympics, having led the alpine skiing women’s super combined after the downhill leg but the American crashed out in the slalom opening the door for Germany’s Maria Riesch to grab the gold.
Riesch finished the downhill in 1:24.49 just behind Vonn’s time of 1:24.16 but put together a solid run in the slalom, finishing in 44.65 to put the pressure on her American rival. That pressure cost Vonn as she failed to finish the slalom, knocking her off the podium all together.
While Vonn missed the podium her American teammate Julia Mancuso found herself in a familiar spot, taking a silver medal. Just one day ago it was Mancuso who finished second to Vonn in the downhill.
Sweden’s Anja Paerson put together a pair of balanced runs, finishing seventh in the downhill and sixth in the slalom to finish third in the combined, good enough for bronze.
