New York Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez connected on the first pitch he saw from Kansas City Royals starter Kyle Davies, sending it over the left field wall at Yankee Stadium for career home run number 500.
The first inning blast made Alex Rodriguez the youngest player in major league baseball history to reach the mark and at 32 there will be plenty of time for the third baseman to chase the all-time mark soon to be set by Barry Bonds.
A-Rod’s 500th home run put him in a club with just 22 members and made him the youngest, surpassing Jimmie Foxx who was 330 days older than Rodriguez when he joined.
Earlier this year Frank Thomas hit his 500th home run.
